A family in York, Maine, has a once-in-a-lifetime encounter while driving back home through a quiet wooded area.
All of a sudden, they just spotted a mysterious white animal climbing a tree, so they decided to investigate(from a safe distance – of course – because they didn’t want to disturb the rare creature). It turned out to be a rare albino porcupine!
Logan Kelley, his mom Kimberly and dad Neil, were getting back home from the York Parks and Recreation Pumpkin Hunt, when the 10-yers-old spotted this tiny weird animal climbing on a tree. The Kelleys immediately pulled over, in order to have a close look to what turned to a very rare occurrence.
Speaking for The Dodo, the young man said: “This white furry creature did not blend in with the surroundings, so that made it so difficult to miss. We didn’t know what it was until we researched.”
The Kelley family admired the adorable creature for a few moments, until it decided to climb down the tree, then lost its way in the wood. As per Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, only one porcupine out of 10,000 are born with albinism. So, this was definitely a sight to behold for Logan and his parents!
“We were at a safe distance, so it was very calm and poised,” Logan said. “It was on the edge of a very secluded wooded area. Me and my parents were so surprised.”
