Family Discovers Abandoned Kitten on the Street – Upon Closer Look, Realizes It’s a Unique Species.
In this heartwarming tale from 2016, a small newborn kitten was found wandering the streets of Thailand, catching the attention of a nearby family.
Upon closer inspection, the family realized this kitten was no ordinary feline, prompting them to reach out to the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) for assistance.
After thorough examination, WFFT determined that the kitten belonged to a rare species known as the fishing cat, which is currently facing the threat of extinction.
Unlike typical domestic cats, fishing cats are larger in size and have a strong affinity for hunting and consuming fish.
The kitten, later named Simba by the family, quickly became a beloved member of the household.
Despite hopes of the mother cat returning, she never did, leading the family to take on the responsibility of caring for and nurturing Simba.
Simba’s survival is not only a miracle but also crucial for the preservation of his species, given the high mortality rate of fishing cats in Thailand due to poaching and retaliation killings.
This heartwarming story serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and preserving all living creatures for the sake of biodiversity and the well-being of our planet.
